Singer-dancer-talk and game show host Wayne Brady showed out on “Dancing With the Stars” on Tuesday night’s results show, somewhat upstaging Nicki Minaj, who also performed on the reality dance competition.
For some reason, ABC decided to rebroadcast the entire Monday night performance show the first hour before airing the second hour with Brady, Minaj and pop singer James Blount.
In honor of what would have been James Brown’s 55th year in entertainment, “DWTS” hired Las Vegas-style Wayne Brady to belt out tunes and shimmy down moves similar to Brown’s. Several of Brown’s relatives were special guests in the audience.
Brady, accompanied by some awfully electrifying dancers as well as the professional “DWTS” dance troupe, sang snippets of “It’s a Man’s World,” “I Got the Feelin’,” and “Get Up.” Brady recently dropped a new album, Radio Wayne.
Minaj was decked out in her usual crazy-lovely style. She wore a dangling fringe gold low-cut mini, black leotards (Why?) and a blonde, page-boy wig with lime green streaks in front, accented by blue eye shadow. A hot mess … but that’s Minaj. Can anyone rock crazy-lovely better than her?
Minaj showed some restraint in singing her hit “Moments 4 Life” while two pairs of professional dancers strutted around the floor in front of her. She did sneak in an occasional, funky, ad-libbed “unh” and “ah.” She had plenty of smiles and waves for the applauding audience before and after her performance.
Again this week, Hines Ward, Romeo and their respective dance partners were safe. Kirstie Alley, Chelsea Kane and Kendra Wilkinson and their partners were in the bottom three on the scoreboard, and Wilkinson was sent home. She handled the news well and told her husband, Hank, “I’m bringing this home,” and “I lasted seven weeks. I may not be the best dancer, but I am the best mom!” Then, she hit the dance floor and presented her signature earthquake shake. –arnell pharr
