Flavor Flav, has lived a wild and crazy life both on and off camera. And now the former star of VH1′ s “Flavor of Love” is opening up about his tumultuous past in his new memoir, Flavor Flav: The Icon The Memoir, and revealing that his six-year addiction to cocaine cost him a whopping $5.7 million.
In recent interview with PopEater, Flav, who was amazed that he could recall as much as he did about his cocaine addiction, explained that he spent thousands of dollars a day on cocaine to support his habit.
“Yeah, I was spending $2,600 a day, for six years, every single day,” said Flav. “I don’t know how much that is but if you did the math, wow, I went through a lot of money. If I did the math I’d probably be shocked on how much money I spent, I’d probably punch myself in the face.”
The editors of the website totaled up the figures and discovered that Flav’s spending cost came to a grand total of $5,696,600.
Flav says that what helped him to quit his costly addiction was the worry that a bad reputation would ruin his dreams of Hollywood fame.
“I went out to California in the middle of 2003 and I changed my people, places and things,” said Flav. “My also wanting to pursue a TV and movie career, I knew that in order for me to do that and be successful, I had to leave all of that behind me. I had to because me being a major celebrity, everything that I do, word will travel. I didn’t want to build a bad reputation in other states. I wanted to leave all that stuff in New York. That’s what really helped me get clean by me not wanting to build up a reputation of me going through neighborhoods buying drugs.
Although Flav’s reputation still may not be the most positive or flattering thing, his success and appeal are ultimately undeniable and we’re sure with his slew of reality show gigs, he’s probably already recouped that lost $5.7 million.
