After stirring up a national frenzy with the pregnancy and birth of her twins, Monroe and Moroccan Scott Cannon, Mariah Carey is now hoping to follow in the footsteps of past celebrity parents by selling pictures of her twins to a major publication. But, despite her initial wish for millions, sources say that the singer will likely only receive about $200,000 for the photos.
According to the NY Post’s Page Six, Mariah has been shopping shots of the twins to several publications including OK! And People, but sources close to Carey and husband, Nick Cannon, say that the two aren’t worried about the less than stellar offers for the photos.
“Mariah and Nick are more concerned with doing the right thing than going to the highest bidder,” said a source close to the couple. “They’re talking to a number of publications about doing it in the best and most tasteful way. Nick has said on radio he doesn’t feel entirely comfortable selling pictures of his children. But the first picture remains very valuable to the paparazzi.”
A rep for Carey added that Carey is still unsure if she wants to do the photo shoot at all.
“She is still deciding when and if she’s going to [do the pictures],” said Carey’s rep. “She is enjoying being a mom, and there’s no rush. It’s not about the money.”
In the past, celebrity parents have raked in big bucks for photos of their newborn babies. Most recently and notably, in 2008, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie earned a reported $14 million for exclusive photos of their children, Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline.
But insiders are now saying that the big payday for new celebrity parents is now over.
“There’s not much movement going on right now,” said a source. “Everyone wants them, and everyone is putting in offers. But times and budgets have changed from the Brangie baby years.”
Carey may never receive the big payout that she originally wanted, but we’re sure that a “measly” $200,000 check won’t be that offensive to Carey or her piggy bank. –nicholas robinson
