Over the holiday weekend, false reports of imprisoned rapper Radric “Gucci Mane” Davis’ release began to pop up in the press. But according to prison records, Gucci is still behind bars and won’t be released until later this week.
According to RapFix Live, the Fulton County Sherriff’s department inmate search site shows that Gucci is still residing in a Fulton County prison, where he’s been since April. The Atlanta rapper was originally locked up on misdemeanor charges of battery, alleging that he pushed a female passenger from his moving vehicle as well as violated his probation back in January 2011.
Over the years, Gucci Mane has had several run-ins with the law, serving time on assault and drug charges as well as traffic violations. Gucci’s most severe charge came in 2005 when he was accused of murder, narrowly escaping prison time thanks to insufficient evidence from the prosecutor.
Throughout recent years, Gucci has used his legal dramas as inspiration for his music, titling his third major album, The Appeal: Georgia’s Most Wanted, this past September. In March, Gucci released his sixth 1017 Brick Squad label street album The Return of Mr. Zone 6.
There’s no word yet on when Gucci will be released from prison. –nicholas robinson
