Contrary to popular belief, Beyoncé’s album, 4, has produced very commendable numbers. Despite very little promotion and only one real single being released (which wasn’t a fan favorite), the album has managed to sell 313,000 copies in the United States alone, according to the reputable Nielsen Soundscan site. Yes, it may be a lower opening week for the megastar (Sasha Fierce opened to 482,000), but this is by no means a “flop.” With Beyoncé’s recent American Idol, Good Morning America and Glastonbury performances and countless new magazine features, 4 is bound to continue to sell.
4 is Beyonce’s fourth #1 album debut on Billboard’s Top 200 list, along with topping several other charts. So please, don’t believe the hype …“Queen B” is here to stay. Beyoncé is also only the second woman ever, and third artist period to have their first four albums to debut at the top spot of the Billboard 200 chart. So, you can’t help but respect her accomplishments.
With her first single from the album peaking at only No. 29 on the Hot 100 chart, these numbers are more than respectable. From first and secondhand experiences, the album is full of possible singles, many favorites, and we all know her work ethic is far beyond average. So, do yourself a favor. Don’t be a bandwagon kind of follower. Purchase 4 for yourself. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. –juwon jackson
