East Oakland, Calif., rapper and director Kreayshawn has been building up quite a buzz since the release of her addictive single, “Gucci Gucci,” back in May. And while Kreayshawn has garnered a number of cosigns from some big name acts like Odd Future, Lil B and Lil Wayne, her latest bit of praise comes from Young Money’s own crown prince, Drake, who recently gushed over the emcee during a radio interview.
According to HipHipDX, while Kreayshawn sat in for an interview with DJ Green Lantern on his “Invasion Radio” show on Sirius Satellite, Drake, while mixing a new single with producer Noah “40” Shebib, called in to speak with the recent Columbia Records signee and share his love for the rookie emcee.
“I’m excited about the radio thing, and I’m excited about Kreayshawn,” said Drake before recounting how they met in Los Angeles. “I don’t know, man. It just happens amongst us young people. We just find each other. I met up with her in L.A. one time, and we just kicked it. That’s my dawg. From there, I just said, ‘That’s my family.’ ”
Drake continued to share kind words for Kreayshawn, clearly gushing over the 21-year-old, pint-sized rapper.
“I honestly get excited when new things happen in hip-hop, and, when I heard ‘Gucci Gucci,’ I heard the flows, I was excited before I even knew who she was. I got to hear a little bit more of the music beyond that, and, to meet her and the energy that she has, she’s just a great person as I’m sure you can tell having her around y’all in the studio. She’s good peoples. That’s my dawg.”
Speaking on a possible future collaboration, Drake explained that he’s more than ready to share a song with Kreayshawn.
“Any time she’s ready, I’ve got bars on deck for that,” said Drake.
Ending on a fun note, the two rappers provided the media with plenty of fodder by trading playful flirts with each other.
“She’s a little cutie pie, you know,” remarked Drake, prompting Kreayshawn to playfully respond, “You’re not so bad yourself there, Mr. rugged and handsome.” –nicholas robinson
