Fall 2011 Makeup Trends With a Twist

With fall slowly creeping around the corner — although the extreme heat waves can make you feel otherwise — we wanted to give you a little sneak peek into what makeup trends to expect this fall. The theme this fall seems to center around being bold. We are seeing nothing but bold lips, bold brows, statement eyes and flawless complexions. The refreshing difference this fall comes with a little bit of a twist. Here’s the scoop, so you can be one of the first in the know. –mckenzie harris

The Bold Lip is Back and a Bit Black

First, purple was hot. Then, plum made its debut. But now, it’s time for a little more edge … if you’re daring enough to try it. Deep plum is getting a little “deeper” to where it almost looks black. The trick is all about layering. Try a medium to dark purple or plum shade as the base color for your lips, then add a deep, rich plum lipstick or liner on top to put you a little more over the edge. Use a lip brush to give you  more control and precise placement of the color. A tad bit of concealer around the lips will help prevent your color from bleeding.

Thick Brows are In

Last fall, runways shied away from statement-making brows. But this fall, the bold brow has made a comeback, and thin is no longer in. We aren’t saying go overboard, but a few strokes to fill in your eyebrows can frame your face beautifully. Think Kim Kardashian and La La Vazquez by keeping them long, dark and natural.

Technicolor Smokey Eye

The smokey eye is one of the sexiest looks to really play up your eyes. Have a little fun with it this fall, and add a touch of color to give it some drama and “oomph.” The perfect colors that give a twist to this trend are navy, reds, emerald and beige, as a softer option. To keep the bold color and definition and get rid of those annoying creases, make sure to prime your lids first.

Fresh Faces

A fresh face will be perfect for those who prefer a little more minimalism when it comes to makeup. The key is finding the perfect foundation that gives you a smooth satin finish. Always test foundation in natural lighting. Finish up with a flattering luminizer like NARS Albatross, $27.
