Mary J. Blige and K-Ci of Jodeci (and later K-Ci & Jojo), were one of the ‘it’ couples of the 90’s. As some may remember, this relationship was quite volatile and marred with pain and scandal. While this is a long-closed chapter in Mary’s drama free life, she hasn’t forgotten the impact it had on her. During her recent VH1 ‘Behind the Music’ special, Mary took a stroll down memory lane when she told the story of how she was dissed 15 years ago by K-Ci during an appearance on a British television show. In love and excited about her relationship, Mary tried to show off her engagement ring and dish on this new phase of love. However, the host informed her that K-Ci had visited the same show just two weeks earlier and dismissed the mere idea of being engaged.
“I was on some TV show saying that I was engaged and showing off my ring (and) the host pulls up the tape and says, ‘This is what he said.’”
Asked for a comment after the footage was shown to her, Blige simply asked the host to “move on”, insisting, “We’re not getting married now.”
“You don’t ask a woman to marry you if that’s not what you want. I was young and I was in love. That hurt me.”
I’m sure that was devastating for Mary. I know she’s thankful to have such a wonderful relationship with her husband Kendu Isaacs!
