Herman Cain’s Pokemon Problem

Herman Cain’s Pokemon Problem

Herman Cain’s uplifting speeches seem to have been lifted from none other than Pokemon!

A light Google search of the Republican candidate’s speech — a tactic routinely used by political watchdogs to detect rehashed or borrowed political speeches — has revealed that Cain reused Pokemon lyrics recently in Iowa and on at least two other occasions beforehand.

“The Power of One” is a song performed by Donna Summer, which is the theme song to the movie Pokémon: The Movie 2000.

These are the lyrics to the 10-year-old song:
You must always remember
Life can be a challenge
Life can seem impossible
It’s never easy
When so much
Is on the line

These are the words Herman Cain said during the Republican debate held a few days ago in Iowa:

“A poet once said, ‘life can be a challenge, life can seem impossible, but it’s never easy when there’s so much on the line.'”

(There is little evidence to support that Donna Summers is considered a poet).

Wait, it gets shadier: on Cain’s website, Donna Summers is quoted again, this time the site attributes the quote to the closing song of the 2000 Olympic Games; the Cain camp made the error again in the official campaign announcement back in May.

Herman Cain, “the new voice,” as the website states, probably should resist reciting Pokemon lyrics from a 10-year-old Donna Summers record, if he plans to win in 2012.
The Smurfs are hot now.
