First its chorale backed Queen Latifah during the 2010 Super Bowl, now the historic Florida Memorial University has one more thing to celebrate. They’re the new home to Natural Trend Setters Salon, which is a natural hair care studio where stylists are dubbed as Florida’s first and finest natural hair care experts. They were recently featured on an episode of VH1’s “Beverly Hills Fabulous.”
Natural Trend Setters Salon has developed a forward thinking partnership with FMU to provide their styling, barber and nail expertise to students, faculty and members of the community. Additionally, their staff will teach the students professional grooming for the workplace.
“Natural Trend Setters is the authentic approach to natural beauty. The salons offer optimal service, expertise and skill to clients who admire individual beauty. The philosophy, artistry and techniques are firmly rooted in African and Caribbean Hair care tradition. As a global representation of beauty and wellness, Natural Trend Setters delivers exceptional results to an ethnic clientele looking to care and nurture their natural hair — hair in its original state — with a Natural Trend Setters’ signature of style and sensibility,” the owners, Trudy and Simone Hylton, offer in a press statement.
The Hyltons are subject-matter experts when it comes to providing consultations and advice on transitioning to natural hair and all-natural hairstyles: braids, twists, locs and extensions.
The grand opening celebration for this endeavor will be held Monday, Sept. 12, 2011, at 6 p.m. on the FMU campus in the J.C. Sams/Ocean Bank Student Center. –yvette caslin
