“The Playboy Club” cover shoot with Naturi Naughton featured a sexy ’60s look to pay homage to Naturi Naughton’s character on the new NBC series.
Naturi’s personal makeup artist Shoniece tells rolling out how she achieved the throwback look that you can wear right now.
Naturi’s Dramatic Eyes:
Approach: For the eyes, we went off the color scheme with her natural glow of color. Naturi has that nice caramel, glowing skin, she’s a great subject. Her skin is flawless and she has wonderful features. If you go back [to the ’60s] it was all about the skin, and that’s what we wanted to do with Naturi give her glowing, dewy, skin with a hint of color.
Products: MAC has this color called Marked for Beauty which is a purple iridescent color and it works well with that peachy color [in the outfit]. It was reminiscent of what they were using in the 60s, back then it was all about the eyes, although we couldn’t see it because it was black and white on film.
Naturi’s Preciously Pink Cheeks:
Approach: We did a layer of blush. We wanted her to look like she was glowing from the inside.
Products: We used NARS Orgasm, and that works well on chocolate skin, because it gives a hint of glow for chocolate women. We used a hint of pinky color, Azela made by MAC on top.
Naturi’s Glossy Pout:
Approach: Dramatic eye, supple lips.
Products: We used Clarins gloss, 08. We colored her lips with Berlin pencil and a nude pencil.
Shoniece’s Top Three Skin Tips:
1. To achieve that dewy, glowing look at home, exfoliate your skin.
A quick, cheap, and easy way to exfoliate is to put a teaspoon of sugar into whatever soap you’re using on your face. The glucose in sugar is a natural exfoliator, it’s not gritty and grainy and it won’t tear you skin. Use this method three times a week, and I assure you that you will get the glow naturally.
2. Keep your skin moisturized, and you can find a great lightweight moisturizer by Aveda that any woman can use.
3. If you have drier skin you can go with a liquid blush, if you have normal skin — African American women, we have combination skin — you can use the products that I mentioned here. But these products won’t look great if you don’t take care of your skin first.
“The Playboy Club’s” Naturi Naughton will wear her look well on the show, no doubt. You can follow her makeup artist on Twitter: @Shoniece.
