Baldwin frantically searched his home for his 1-month-old son, Michael Baldwin III, calling out “Michael,” and running from room to room. Suddenly struck by what he described as “this funny feeling she was on top of him,” Baldwin said he lifted the “extremely heavy” woman and found his son beneath her. “He was lying on his back with his hands folded on his stomach,” the grieving father explained. “He was blue … I knew he was dead.”
Detective Lt. Gerard Pelkofsky said investigators believe the deaths were a “tragic accident,” but were awaiting autopsy and toxicology test results. “Because of the amount of flesh, it could have caused the baby to suffocate,” he said.
The infant and the babysitter were pronounced dead at a local hospital.
