Lil Wayne has done it, once again, landing his third No. 1 album at the top of the Billboard 200 chart with his wildly anticipated project, Tha Carter IV, and nearly passing the platinum sales mark.
According to Billboard, Nielson Soundscan reports that Wayne’s album rocketed to the top of the Billboard 200 chart with impressive sales of 964,000 units in its first week. Wayne’s opening numbers hit just shy of besting the first-week numbers of his previous Carter series album, Tha Carter III, which entered the charts with sales of 1,005,545.
Weezy’s No. 1 spot on the charts isn’t the only thing that the “How To Love” rapper has to celebrate about.
Last week, Billboard also announced that Wayne’s latest album broke the U.S. iTunes’s store’s single-week album sales record, with 345,000 album sold via iTunes. Wayne’s record-breaking move comes just three weeks after Jay-Z and Kanye West broke the same record, selling 290,000 downloads of their Watch The Throne album on iTunes in a single week.
Congratulations to Wayne on his No. 1 and, by now, platinum album. –nicholas robinson
