Fast Five is soon to be released on DVD on October 4th. What was it like behind the scenes during filming?

It was good to be back on the set. It was a labor of love with good energy and good vibes on the set. We shot it in Rio de Janeiro, Puerto Rico and Atlanta. The film is funny, energetic and has a lot of action. This is the best one in the series. It’s worth supporting.

What is the secret to balancing a successful film and music career?

Baby Boy was the only film that was kind of close to my real life. But other than that, these are characters that are created and you get on the set and have fun. It’s been a few years since I dropped an album. My new album is called Open Invitation and will be out in November. My fans have been wanting me to do another album and this is my best one.

Why was it important for you to release your book?

I think it’s important to give people the heads up before they bend that corner. There are a lot of people that are motivated and inspired about life, relationships and career moves. But they don’t have a sense of direction. They don’t know how to bend that corner and they don’t know what to do first. I’m 32, but I have been at it for years.

What advice do you have for entertainers who are starting in the industry?

Most careers end because they deal with peer pressure. I believe in doing your own thing. You have to be able to step out there and create the new standard. I decided to go out there and be different. It has proven beneficial.
