Twin sisters, both Ivy League grads, square-off on Occupy Wall Street
Ivy League twins Nicole and Jill Carty.

It’s a case of Bohemian vs. banker for 23-year-old Ivy League graduates (and identical twin sisters) Jill and Nicole Carty.

Nicole, the big sister (by five minutes), earned a sociology degree from Brown University and is arguably the Bohemian. Nicole is a vocal supporter and participant in the Occupy Wall Street movement, and her allegiance with the common man, the so-called 99 percent, doesn’t sit well with her twin.

“When we try not to talk about politics, one of us will say something to set the other one off,” Nicole says.
Jill has dual degrees in business and international studies from the University of Pennsylvania, and is on the path to join the nation’s economic elites, the so-called 1 percent.

Jill says that her sister’s passion is misplaced and that, “She could be even more powerful if she worked in economics, using the tools of Wall Street to fight back.”

Rhoda Carty, a Caribbean native who raised the twins in Atlanta, doesn’t choose sides in this financial family feud.

“If it were up to me, I would have liked [Nicole] to study economics,” she told The Daily.
“But my father was something of a revolutionary on Anguilla…[Nicole] has her mother’s full support. I do feel that it’s time for a paradigm shift.”

The sisters witnessed their mom move up from trying to make ends meet to affording to send her daughters to top-tier schools simultaneously. However, after the crash of 2008 hit, says Nicole, their mother is “pretty much right back where she started,” nowadays.

To that point Jill says that the economy would be better off with less government that is, if government steered clear of free enterprise: “My sister says the corporations need to get out of government. But I would say government needs to get out of a lot of things.”

Which twin is right?
