Wale on the Verge of Superstardom: 7 Artists Who Should Be Bigger Stars
That angelic face hides an inner fire that's ignited once the stage lights come on

Ledisi: She is this generation’s Anita Baker, just with a different tasting lemon twist. I’ve seen Ledisi go hard in the paint at the Essence Music Fest in New Orleans, aboard the Tom Joyner Fantastic Voyage and at the 100 Black Men Convention in San Francisco. The results are always identical: it is not so much a concert as much as it is an explosion of raw energy – energy that seems to come right through the floor — and Ledisi wields her sultry sexiness and vivacious voice like a wand that casts a spell on her entranced disciples. I’ll let fellow ro scribe Roz Edwards, who just emerged from her inaugural headlining tour stop in the ATL, provide a debriefing of Ledisi’s visual and vocal spectacular:

Take it from here, Roz:

“Ledisi told a sold-out house that some in the industry told her she couldn’t pull off her own headline tour and she appeared to be honestly overwhelmed and surprised when the very animated audience sprang to their feet to applaud and shout their approval and appreciation,” Edward writes. “The New Orleans-born singer’s spectacular vocal control, sometimes simmers in bluesy and jazzy tones and then erupts into an ethnic rock that is reminiscent of the Mother’s Finest sound.”

And with that, we close our case on Ledisi’s deserved status for worldwide stardom.
