According to the singer, the breakdown occurred while she was filming for “The X Factor U.K.,” for which she is a judge.
“A couple of weeks ago, I was reading through a magazine and I saw a picture of him. I didn’t even know who it was until I read the caption. I completely lost it,”said Rowland.
“My camp saw me disappear into the bathroom and they were like, ‘What happened?’ I didn’t know there was so much emotion still there,” Rowland continued. “You close so many different things of your life, and I like to shut them off and keep moving. But, in that moment, it just sucked everything out of me and I cried so hard.”
“There were so many different emotions — confusion more than anything. I was like, ‘Who is that?’ I haven’t seen him for 22 years,” recalled Rowland.
Back in October, the Here I Am singer revealed to Cosmopolitan U.K. how her father’s absence marred her childhood.
“I haven’t seen my dad for almost 20 years. It’s nothing I want a pity party for. He left me and my mom, and I was angry. I wanted to be a daddy’s girl so bad,” recalled Rowland, adding that she’d forgiven her father long ago and wanted to meet him.
“He reached out to me saying he wanted to see me, but it’s unfortunate he did it so publicly,” said Rowland. “I want to meet him, and soon, I really do. I forgave him a long time ago.”
Rowland’s story is indeed sad and unfortunately she’s not the only woman or celebrity who’s had to deal the effects of having an estranged father. Below, check out five other celebs who grew up without fathers. –nicholas robinson
