Michael Taylor was a teenager searching for an identity while dealing with the social pressures of his environment in New Orleans. Unfortunately, Taylor, 16, was murdered before he had a chance to escape those pressures. Several months ago, Taylor was featured in a viral video being spanked by his uncle. Apparently, Taylor’s uncle was upset that he had joined a gang. His uncle videotaped the spanking and forced Taylor to denounce the gang lifestyle on camera.
The video received millions of views and many applauded Taylor’s uncle for administering corporal punishment to the teen. The video was also viewed as a joke. It was mocked by several websites and Lil Wayne and Birdman also did a spoof on the incident.
But while Taylor’s uncle was seeking to discipline the teen, the embarrassment from the spanking may have led to Taylor further embracing the gang life.
According to reports, Taylor told his mother that he was going outside to speak with a friend around 8 p.m. on Dec. 7. His mother called him back inside after a few minutes and Taylor went back out after telling her that he was just talking.
Several minutes later, Taylor’s sister received a text that said he had been shot. Taylor’s mother eventually saw his lifeless body was on the sidewalk.
