The end of a calendar year is usually a somber time filled with reflection, some regret, perhaps a dash of joy. Nothing drives the notion home of how little time we have on this earth than when larger-than-life personalities die. 2011 was no different as our community lost some major personalities, sometimes for shocking reasons like knee surgery, pneumonia and diabetes.
