2. John Ensign and his best friend’s wife. Former Republican Nevada Senator John Ensign gives credence to the old adage, “if you want a best friend in Washington D.C., buy a dog.” This year he admitted to having an affair with his with Cynthia Hampton, the wife of his aide and buddy, Douglas Hampton. The affair came to life after Ensign gave his buddy a cushy job, and Ensign’s parents gave him $96,000 as a gift. The Senate Ethics Committee turned the matter over to the feds.
