Yolanda Adams, Businesswomen and Comerica Bank Executives Give Scholarships and Computers to Low Income Students

CEO of The Texas Women’s Empowerment Foundation, Ms. Deavra Daughtry in conjunction with Comerica Bank hosted the organization’s annual Read To Lead Holiday Book Drive and Computer Giveaway on Monday, Dec. 5. The evening’s focus on education and empowerment included the announcement of the 2011 youth scholarships totaling $5000, in addition to awarding 500 books and 30 computers to deserving youth. Among the attendees who read books to the youngest participants were key community leaders: Mr.J. Downey Bridgwater, president of Comerica Bank’s Houston market; Irvin Ashford Jr., SVP,Director of Community Development and External Affairs; U.S. Naval Officer Commander Gregory Williams and Texas State Representative Sylvester Turner. TWEF concluded the evening by presenting the 2011 Eagle Scholar Award to American Grammy-winning gospel music singer and radio show host, Yolanda Adams.
