Heavy D's Cause of Death Revealed: 7 Other Surprising Music Deaths

After weeks of questions surrounding the tragic death of hip-hop icon Heavy D, the cause of his death has finally been revealed.

According to TMZ, The L.A. County Coroner has revealed that Heavy D, born Dwight Arrington Myers, died from a pulmonary embolism caused by deep leg vein thrombosis. Pulmonary embolisms are blockages in the arteries of the lungs and are typically caused by blood clots that have traveled from other areas of the body.

Craig Harvey, chief of the coroner’s office, suspects that the fatal blood clot “most likely formed during an extended airplane ride.” Days before his death, Heavy was on long plane ride from Europe to L.A., after performing at Michael Jackson’s tribute concert in Wales.

At the time of his death, many believed that Heav may have died as a result of pneumonia. A toxicology report found medication in his system, but only at a therapeutic level.

“He was treating himself with cough syrup,” Harvey said. “But it was not contributory [to his death].”

However, Harvey claimed that Heavy suffered from heart disease, which may have been a contributing factor in his death.

Heavy D died on Nov. 9, after collapsing at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after collapsing at his Beverly Hills home and complaining of troubled breathing. He was only 44.

Though Heavy is gone, thankfully his family, friends and fans now have answers regarding his death and to them, we still send our greatest condolences. Below, check out our list of seven other surprising celebrity deaths. –nicholas robinson
