Jay-Z and Damon Dash Split Ties
In the late 90s and early 00s, Roc-A-Fella records was one of hip-hop’s premiere record labels, boasting a roster that included rap heavyweights Cam’Ron, Kanye West and of course Jay-Z. But things fell apart in 2005 when Jay and his partners Damon Dash and Kareem Burke sold their 50 percent stake in the label to Def Jam and Jay became President of Def Jam recordings, gaining complete control of the Roc-A-Fella empire. The three former friends began publicly feuding with each other and Jay-Z eventually walked away from Def Jam and Roc-A-Fella to start his own Roc Nation label with Live Nation, putting the final nail in the coffin of both Roc-A-Fella Records and his friendship with Dash.
