On Sept. 8, 1965, the last day of the beautiful actress’s life, Dorothy Dandridge was due in New York for an engagement at the Basin Street East. She spoke to her ex-sister-in-law by phone and was dead hours later. Dandridge’s manager, Earl Mills, discovered her body. She was 42.
