Mario Van Peebles Returns to Big Screen in 'We the Party'

Stars: Mario Van Peebles, Michael Jai White, Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Snoop Dogg

Studio: XLrator Media

Clearly We the Party aims to appeal to young theatergoers, since it’s loaded with the themes that many kids are concerned about (and in some cases, obsessed with): being popular, sex, prom, college, the opposite sex, partying, avoiding bullies, etc. Academics? Eh, not so much. After taking inventory of their collective skill sets and talents, five high school buddies conclude they don’t have much of a future as rappers or ballers, so they come up with a different path to financial success. Where this venture leads them is not pretty, but the audience will enjoy the journey of this telegenic quintet and their angst-ridden parents. Look out for a menacing performance from Snoop Dogg. Filmmaker Mario Van Peebles has an ear and heart for the issues that matter to teenagers and their elders, and he gives one of the funniest lines in the film to his character. –michele fling
