Ocatvia Spencer might give another Oscar worthy performance in a new film, this time based on the shooting death of Oscar Grant.
The Academy Award winner has reportedly signed on to play the mother of Grant, the unarmed 22-year-old shot and killed on New Year’s Day 2009 by Bay Area Rapid Transit police, in a new movie.
Grant’s story will be told on film in part due to the killing of Trayvon Martin, the unarmed 17-year-old killed by a neighborhood watchman.
The Hollywood Reporter states that Spencer will star alongside actor Michael B. Jordan in the Forest Whitaker and Nina Yang production.
The film is to be titled “Fruitvale” after the transit station where the incident took place.
A tentative July production date has been set.
