Martin Lawrence has filed for divorce after less than two years of marriage, the media reports.
Lawrence, the star of the popular TV sitcom “Martin” as well as the motion pictures Blue Streak and Big Mamma’s House franchise, filed the legal papers in Los Angeles County Superior Court on the account of “irreconcilable differences.”
The beloved comedian and his wife Shamicka got married on July 10, 2010. They were officially separated on April 24th. Lawrence filed for divorce the very next day. The estranged couple have two children — 11-year-old Iyanna and 9-year-old Amara Trinity. Lawrence is seeking joint parental custody of the two children.
The good thing about this from Lawrence’s perspective is that, unlike Kobe Bryant, he ensured that he got a prenup prior to commencing with their nuptials.
Releasing a joint statement, Lawrence and his wife said: “out of love and respect for one another, we will continue to remain friends and raise our two beautiful daughters together.”
