Queen Latifah Headlining Long Beach, Calif., Gay Pride

Queen Latifah has fans of all ages, sizes and races across the globe, but this month, she’s about to show some love her to LGBT audience as she was recently named the headliner of the Long Beach Lesbian & Gay Pride Festival, set to take place on May 19.

According to the official website, this will mark Latifah’s first time appearing at a gay pride event.

“From hip-hop to R&B, pop to standards, Queen Latifah is the voice of our generation, and her concert here will be phenomenal,” Long Beach Pride co-president Pat Crosby said in a statement. “For her to make her worldwide Pride debut here in Long Beach is a tremendous testament to the popularity of our celebration and to the strength of our community.”

The festival and parade are expected to draw around 75,000 attendees over two days and with the help of Latifah, the event may even garner more fans.

And though some fans may be shocked by Latifah’s appearance at a gay pride event, she’s not the only star who’s done so. Many stars like Janet Jackson, Brandy, Nicki Minaj and Whitney Houston have all supported their LGBT fans at pride festivals

We’ll definitely keep you posted if that happens. And though some fans may be shocked by Latifah’s appearance at a gay pride event, she’s not the only star who’s done so.

However,  the performance will stand as monumental for Latifah because she has long been the subject of rumors that she herself is part of the LGBT community herself. And many people are speculating that perhaps Latifah may make a statement about her personal life at the event.

If she does reveal to the world that she is gay, then kudos to her. And if she doesn’t, still, kudos to her for being supportive of the LGBT community. Either way, we’ll definitely keep you posted.

But Latifah’s not the only female in hip-hop to be plagued by gay rumors. Check out a list other suspected lesbians in hip-hop below. –nicholas robinson
