And on the other end of the spectrum Who could forget the tough but sympathetic and understanding Florida Evans, mom to JJ, Thelma, and youngest son Michael on the hit 70’s sitcom “Good Times.” The show was one of the first to offer realistic look at life in the Chicago projects, and dealt with gritty, real life issues like discrimination, crime, unemployment and sexual assault. And aren’t we lucky we had her, Florida was the quintessential “strong black woman” and as we all know “they got by.”
