Ambassador Andrew Young’s 80th Birthday Party
Andrew Young, one of the most beloved and influential figures from the civil rights movement, celebrated his 80th birthday at the prestigious Hyatt Regency in downtown Atlanta, the city that served as epicenter black political activity that he and Martin Luther King and many others spearheaded in during the 1950s and 60s.
Affectionately adorned the sobriquet “Ambassador” that he’s worn since his appointment as U.S. ambassador during the Jimmy Carter administration in the 1070s, the former Atlanta mayor was joined at the upscale soiree by a star-studded cast from the entertainment, music and civic industries, including Oprah Winfrey (who dashed in late after giving the commencement address to graduating Spelman College students), the Honorable Rev. Joseph Lowry, rapper T.I., Martin Luther King III, actor Chris Tucker, Rainforest Films producer Will Packer, actress Jasmine Guy and many members of Ambassador Young’s immediate and extended families.
