The Concerned Black Clergy of Metropolitan Atlanta invites all those interested in improving money skills and learning about homeownership to “Get Financially Fit” by attending a free seminar in Atlanta. June is National Homeownership Month and the seminar will place a special emphasis on homeownership and a new program in Atlanta, NeighborhoodLIFT. The program provides down-payment assistance of up to $15,000 to those who meet income guidelines and want to buy and live in a house in the city of Atlanta.
“This is a free investment of a few hours that can pay dividends for a lifetime,” said Concerned Black Clergy president Reverend Frank Brown. “This workshop, in partnership with Wells Fargo, is a fun and informative way to get headed in the right financial direction.”
“Antioch is happy to open our doors to the community and especially to our own members for this important occasion,” said the Rev. Dr. Cameron Alexander, pastor of Antioch. “Now is a great time to change our ways as we continue the recovery from the recession.”
In addition to homeownership and banking professionals from Wells Fargo, counselors from CredAbility, the Atlanta-based nonprofit credit counseling agency, will provide their expertise in the session on the basics of credit.
Under the NeighborhoodLIFT program, those with annual incomes of up to 120 percent of the area median can receive up to $15,000 for a down payment. For a family of four, the income limit is $83,000. The program is an $8 million initiative by Wells Fargo and millions of dollars of assistance is still available.
“We thank the Concerned Black Clergy and Antioch for their leadership on this seminar,” said Candy Moore, Wells Fargo senior vice president of community development. “It’s a great way to work together to help those who attend get on the path to financial success.”
Overwhelmingly, participants attending the previous three seminars indicated that they would recommend the event to a friend.
“Financial education is a sweet spot for Wells Fargo,” said Mike Donnelly, Atlanta regional president for Wells Fargo. “We won’t succeed if Atlanta residents and communities don’t succeed — so we’re delighted to offer our expertise.”
The class will take place Saturday, June 23, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church North located at 540 Cameron M. Alexander Blvd., NW in Atlanta. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged; however, walk-ins will be welcomed. The first 30 adults who register and complete the course will receive a $25 gift certificate.
