Russell Simmons, Carmelo Anthony Party at Magic Johnson's Aspire TV Launch

Magic Johnson continues to make tremendous strides as an entrepreneur. The NBA Hall of Famer recently bought the L.A. Dodgers and is now venturing into TV media.

In partnership with GMC TV, Johnson launched his cable station Aspire on June 27. Rolling out was on hand as Johnson held a launch party at Cipriani in New York. Notable attendees included Russell Simmons, Carmelo Anthony, Andre Harrell, Omari Hardwick, Al Sharpton, Sylvia Rhone, June Ambrose and model Jessica White.

New Edition performed their most memorable hits and DJ D-Nice kept the party going for hours by spinning on the one’s and two’s.

Johnson spoke about the importance of creating his own TV outlet before officially launching the station at 8:00 pm EST.

We’re excited because we have a big platform for African Americans,” Johnson said. “We will be hiring African American actors, producers, directors and camera operators. The station will provide family driven content and positive images of African Americans.”
