Kirko Bangz Taking Over With 'Drank in My Cup' Single

At 22 years of age Kirko Bangz, also known as the Young Texas Playa, is already making an impact on the airwaves nationally, pumping life back into the Houston music scene.

After releasing his first single, “What Yo Name Iz,” and gaining the support of his city, the kid was unstoppable. His second single “Drank In My Cup” became airwave gold, earning him a coveted Top 10 spot on the Billboard Charts.

“I just put it all in one pot, turned the heat on, boiled it and it turned out like this,” Kirko Bangz said.

Listening to his lyrics, it’s obvious this Houstonian works his pen like he does his magic on the crowd. “It was my outlet, I didn’t have anyone to talk [with] about stuff I was going through, when I was growing up so I took to the pen and paper.” Despite his rough upbringing, Bangz attended Prairie View A&M and his music career began to take flight.

While his greatest influences are Eminen and Lil Wayne, his resume now includes working with artists such as Chris Brown, Big Sean, Wale, Juelz Santana, Bun B, 2 Chainz, Slim Thug, Paul Wall, Bobby Valentino, and more.

“Drank In My Cup” served its purpose of  representing his hometown flavor in the title. However, the track is far from what you would infer from the name, and touts his irresistible ladies’ man appeal. “It explains I am that guy that makes a girl feel good about herself when her boyfriend is tripping on her,” Bangz said of the track.

Making it perfectly clear who originated the Styrofoam-style, Bangz says,  “I just want to show the world what Houston is about, from my perspective, the way that I’ve always viewed it.”

His mixtape, titled Progresssion 2, dropped at the top of the year. “It’s like my coming out party, you know what I’m talking bout,” Kirko said as he dropped the quintessential H-Town response.  The young workaholic is already preparing for his debut album. His latest work includes a video that made its debut on MTV Jams with Slim Thug and newcomer Dough Beezy.
