In 2012, World Humanitarian Day is Aug. 19. The day is a time to appreciate the international good works being done by people who often face danger in their efforts to help others. The date was chosen to commemorate the 2003 bombing of the United Nations headquarters in Baghdad, Iraq that killed 22 people.
It’s also a time to do your part to make the world a better place. Take part in the observance today by visiting www.whd-iwashere.org and putting a pin in a virtual map to mark where you were and how you helped someone today.
The acts can be small or large, but do something to make the world a better place. And don’t forget to keep the kindness going tomorrow and the next day and the day after that … This year’s theme is “I Was Here.”
