Tony Farmer was one year away from entering college as one of the top freshmen basketball players in the country. However, the basketball star from Garfield Heights (suburban Cleveland, Ohio) will spend the next three years of his life in jail after being convicted of kidnapping and assault on his ex-girlfriend Andrea Lane.
According to reports, the teens got into an altercation last April and Farmer dragged Lane by her hair in the parking lot of an apartment. Farmer also sent threatening text messages to Lane.
But Farmer couldn’t imagine the possibility of spending the next 36 months of his life in jail. After a Cuyahoga County judge read his sentence, Farmer collapsed and began crying. The judge will review Farmer’s sentence in 180 days.
Farmer was being recruited by national powerhouses such as Michigan State, Ohio State, Iowa, and Michigan.
