Kendrick Lamar Doesn't 'Believe' in Voting

Since his debut, Kendrick Lamar has gained fame for his dense and layered lyrics about both his emotions and his view of the ghetto and the world at large, blurring the lines between mainstream and conscious rap. And though some would consider him the latter, Kendrick has proved that just because a man is for the people, doesn’t mean he’s for the politicians. In a recent interview, the rising emcee explained that he does not believe in voting.

While chatting with TruthIsScary.com, Kendrick spoke about nutrition and conspiracy theories  as well as why he feels there’s no power in voting.

“My vote counts? I don’t do no voting. I will keep it straight up real with you. I don’t believe in none of the s— that’s going on in the world,” he said. “You talk with me, you talk with me for hours because everything has a contradiction, everything is higher ranking and way beyond us, way beyond people. So basically, do what you do, do good with your people and live your life because what’s going on isn’t really in our hands.”

Kendrick then went on to explain why he thinks even the president has limits to his power and influence as well.

“When I say the president can’t even control the world, then you definitely know there’s something else out there pushing the buttons,” he continued. “They could do whatever they want to do, we all puppets. Just play your cards right.”

Well, that sounds pretty bleak. We don’t expect Kendrick to follow in Common’s White House path any time soon or kick it with Diddy this election season.

But he’s not the only celebrity to decline their right to vote. Check out some other non-voting celebs below. –nicholas robinson
