But, after wading through the never-ending drama, and taking inventory of his feelings during episodes of the “Love & Hop Hop Atlanta” bonanza, Lil Scrappy dumped Shay on national TV, totally humiliating her and sending her off crying and then proceeded to shock Dixon and the mostly female audience at the “Love & Hip Hop Atlanta” reunion show when he popped the question to her.
This took everyone by surprise because on the show as well as in the media, both Scrappy and Erica have stated that they were no longer together, and there was even buzz that Dixon may have a new man.
But then Lil Scrappy flipped the script at the reunion show — big time. Here’s how it went down:
After Shay and Erica had a nonstop verbal altercation on the “Love & Hip Hop Atlanta” reunion program — to the point where Shay had to be carried off the set several times to prevent the two from fighting — Scrappy finally interceded and took control of the set. In the best way he knew how, he said that he loved the time (and sex) that he and Shay shared together but that he felt there was no long-term future between them.
Irate and brokenhearted that she had to find out that they were no longer lovers, Shay immediately began to tear up and screamed, “Then you need to take the stuff out of my name and put them in her name,” which drew loud choruses of oohs and aahs from the audience.
Scrappy then turned his attention to Erica. But as the hard reality of the situation settled in Shay’s mind, she suddenly cried out, “I can’t believe you did me like this,” and stormed off the set sobbing, never to reappear.
Scrappy didn’t seem too bothered by it at all. He addressed his mother, pleading for her to give Erica Dixon a chance. Erica, for her part, admitted that she had been holding a lot of her feelings back from him for fear of rejection and more hurt. Then, as if on cue, when Scrappy’s mother said that he needed to make that move to solidify the relationship between him and Erica, Scrappy reached into his right pocket and the audience let out a cacophony of gasps and screams.
When Scrappy turned toward Erica and got on one knee, the high-pitched screeches were so deafening, they could have stopped birds in mid-flight.
Scrappy asked for Erica’s hand in marriage as he slipped the ring on her finger. Both Erica and members of the audience were in tears at the total change of pace from relentless on-set fighting and arguing to one of affection and love.
Now the question is: can the two volatile and explosive personalities make the marriage work? That remains to be seen.
