After at first vehemently refusing them, Chad Johnson has officially signed documents to file for divorce from his wife. As previously reported, the 34-year-old NFL player pleaded not guilty today to misdemeanor battery charges. He is accused of head-butting his estranged wife Evelyn Lozada during an August 11 argument.
TMZ now reports that Chad has finally caved and is accepting the fact that his marriage is “irretrievably broken.” On the same day that he entered a not guilty plea, Chad’s attorney filed divorce papers saying that the pair’s marriage is damaged beyond them. The papers also state that the two have a prenup that he believes should be enforced including a line that asks that Lozada foot the bill for their attorneys. Evelyn previously requested that Chad pay for her legal fees citing a provision in the prenup in which the two sides agreed to pay their own way if they were to split up. That piece of the divorce will be ironed out before a judge.
The divorce is expected to be finalized very soon. Sources tell the website that Lozada is “ecstatic” to be breaking away from Johnson.-danielle canada
