Robin Roberts Health Update: 'My Body Is So Weak, But Not My Mind'

It’s been nearly a month since Robin Roberts began her medical leave from “Good Morning America” to prepare for a life-saving bone marrow transplant later this week. Since her departure, “GMA” and ABC News have been keeping fans abreast of Roberts’ condition, and in her latest blog post for the network, Roberts proclaims that “my body is so weak but not my mind.”

“The start of last week went well but the daily chemo/treatment caught up to me by the weekend. My body is so weak but not my mind. YOU give me the courage to keep going,” Roberts wrote.

“So today is my last day of chemo … Wednesday is called a day of rest, yay, right! The transplant is scheduled for Thursday morning,” she continued. “Bless you & Onward!”

As most know, Roberts will undergo the transplant (her sister is her donor) to treat myelodysplastic syndrome or MDS, a rare blood disease that has damaged her marrow. Roberts developed the disease as a result of chemotherapy during her successful breast cancer treatment in 2007.

Roberts is expected to stay on medical leave for several months before she returns to “GMA.” But, we must say that we commend Roberts for not only keeping a brave face throughout this ordeal, but being vulnerable enough to allow her fans to share in her story.

And she’s not alone in her bravery. Check out some other ailing stars below. –nicholas robinson
