Lady Gaga Reveals Struggles With Bulimia and Anorexia

Lady Gaga has been receiving a lot of attention as of late because of her apparent weight gain. But while other artists may have crumbled under the negative chatter or simply fired back at their critics, Gaga has decided to take another route and revealed her struggles with eating disorders as well as a new campaign to end body image issues.

Yesterday, Sept. 25, Gaga launched a page called A Body Revolution 2013 on her Little Monsters site, encouraging her fans to share their stories about their flaws and embrace them. Of course, Gaga was the first to post to the site and she shared her reasoning for creating the page.

“My mother and I created the BORN THIS WAY FOUNDATION for one reason: to inspire bravery,” Gaga said on the site. “This profile is an extension of that dream. Be brave and celebrate with us your ‘perceived flaws,’ as society tells us. May we make our flaws famous, and thus redefine the heinous.” In another post, the singer wrote, “Now that the body revolution has begun, be brave and post a photo of you that celebrates your triumph over insecurities.”

Gaga took the first step in photo posting and released a photo of herself in nothing but a matching yellow bra and thong with a startling revelation about her own personal demons: “Bulimia and anorexia since I was 15.”

In the next photo, Gaga poses with her arms stretched out with the caption, “But today I join the BODY REVOLUTION.”

In the third photo, Gaga holds her hands above her with a caption that reads “to inspire bravery.”

And in the last photo, Gaga turns her backside to the camera, adding the message, “and BREED some M$therf*cking COMPASSION.”

Prior to her revealing photo series, Gaga wrote a post about her battle with weight gain and how she’s happier being a curvier woman that’s less concerned with her weight.

“My weight/loss/gain since i was child has tormented me. No amount of help has ever healed my pain about it. But YOU have,” she wrote. “My boyfriend prefers me curvier, when i eat and am healthy and not so worried about my looks, I’m happy. Happier then I’ve ever been.”

We give our sincerest kudos to Gaga for sharing her revealing story of self love. And she’s not alone. Check out some other stars that have suffered with eating disorders below. – nicholas robinson
