In a previous report, rolling out scribe Danielle Canada unveiled the 20 most popular video vixens of rap’s modern era. But that was of this generation. Whatever happened to the video vixens of MTV’s golden age (some would say ‘Stone Age’)?
For those of the Gen X and Gen Y demographic, such as this writer, our childhood soundtrack was written by an entirely different cadre of musicians, videos and, of course, a different set of video vixens who attained varying levels of national fame, some even attaining iconic status. They most certainly were, on average, paler and thinner than the buxom beauties of today. However, little is known about whatever became of them and their aspirations for stardom independent of the videos they are most associated with.
rolling out takes a pause to answer the question of what happened to the video vixens of yesteryear and where are they today.
Paulina Porizkova in The Cars’ “Drive” (1984)
Porizkova was still a blossoming flower when she starred in the video that not only changed her life, it defined it. Porizkova only 19 when she starred in actor Timothy Hutton’s directed video. Even though she was the object of bassist Ben Orr’s affection (he sang lead on this song), it was bandleader Ric Ocasek who really wanted her, even though he was 35 and married with kids.
Whatever became of their mutual attraction to one another?
