‘Pitch Perfect’: Movie Review

'Pitch Perfect': Movie Review

Stars: Anna Kendrick, Skylar Astin, Ben Platt, Brittany Snow and Rebel Wilson
Studio: Universal Studios

Beca (Anna Kendrick) is a high school, er, college freshman who is recruited for the school’s a cappella group. Yes, there are similarities to Fox’s “Glee,” (which is why it’s hard to think of the cast as matriculating college students) what with the singing and telegenic young stars and all. But whether you consider that a positive or negative thing, don’t give this film short shrift. Pitch Perfect doesn’t mine new territory in the angst-ridden drama, heated competition that goes down to the wire, or backstabbing mean girls, but it is uproariously funny and has some of the snappiest dialogue of this movie season. Case in point, Fat Amy’s (Rebel Wilson) profane explanation of why she calls herself “Fat Amy.” Hey, our lips are sealed. Go see the movie and find out. –p.d. lee
