Tell us about your company and your role.
I am the CEO of Visual Arts Productions, a nonprofit organization that was founded in 1997 in Houston. Our organization focuses on the subject of transforming the lives of youth from low- to moderate-income families and communities by offering them training in the arts and allowing them self-discovery through the theatrical dance productions. We are committed to providing scholarships to individuals involved in the arts. Visual Arts Productions produces the “Move Something Inspired 2 Dance” show, which has been recorded and televised … on TV One, The WORD Network and The Rejoice Network.
The 2012 taping of “Move Something” is scheduled for Nov. 10, 2012, at St. John’s United Methodist Church 2019 Crawford St., Houston, 77002. It will feature youth ages 7-14 years and adults from Houston, New Orleans, Atlanta, Florida and New York.
What is your life inspiration?
As one who, after being diagnosed with a life-threatening illness nearly 20 years ago, my inspiration for the works that I have done has been inspired divinely. It was said that I would never walk or talk and not to speak of ever dancing again. Just getting through my days and seemingly watching my life slip away, I pulled on the inner strength that dwelled within. Trusting the healing power of God, I accepted the challenge and stepped out on faith. As I made a conscientious effort to put my all and all into what I accomplished each day, each precious step propelled me to greater heights. During my journey, I have experienced many doors that seemed as though they would never open; but, with commitment and persistence, floodgates opened nationally and internationally.
What is your motto for success?
