KKK Burn Victim: Sharmeka Moffitt Update

Winnsboro, La. police have confirmed that the woman burned alive was attacked by three men wearing white hoodies at a park in Franklin Parish on Sunday, Oct 21. The FBI is investigating to see if this is in fact a hate crime. Evidence has led them to believe that Sharmeka Moffitt, 20, was set on fire for wearing an Obama t-shirt. The letters “KKK-N—-r” were spray-painted on the hood of her car.

The Franklin Parish Sheriff, Louisiana State Police and the State Fire Marshall’s office are also participating in the investigation.

A friend of the family has confirmed that Moffitt has burns on 90 percent of her body and was currently in stable condition at the LSU-Shreveport hospital. The Facebook page “Prayers for Sharmeka Moffitt” was created on Sunday night to support the victim and encourage the media to cover the story.

The letters were not spray painted, they were written with toothpaste. The attackers were not three hooded men, but one woman (herself), But your right, it is a hate crime meant to incite racial hatred and segregation.

Agreed. Your facts are way off. Winnsboro never confirmed she was attacked by anyone not that anything wad spray painted. Very unprofessional on your part as a news outlet. This was a self inflicted incident by a very selfish and troubled girl who should have consisted all the people she would hurt in the end for her lie

As a black man,it galls me to no end when people not only commit these kinds of acts to engender some sort of race backlash, but when irresponsible “news outlets” promulgate it without even a semblence of vetting. Pathetic.
