Rapper Tree G rises from Cabrini-Green projects to MTV Hive

There are many plots and only a single ending to one’s story and that is why we are taught to live life to the fullest.

Chicago rapper MC Tree G is living life to the fullest. You may have known him as the upscale shoe salesman from Nordstrom on Michigan Avenue. But you may also know him as the architect of one of the top-ranked mix tapes, Sunday School, as saluted by MTVHive.

Says MTVHive: “While Chicago has produced more visible stars this year — viral video goon turned Kanye collaborator Chief Keef, in particular — it’s Tree who might stand as the city’s greatest rising talent.”

Here’s the full story behind Tremaine Johnson, the former upscale shoe salesman who has successfully become a rapper.

What is your background?

I was raised in the Cabrini Green projects, all my friends are dead, in jail, or in the process of reforming their prior lives. I made it all the way to college and made a great living in designer fashion.

What was your introduction to hip-hop?

LL Cool J. I remember my brother had the “I’m Bad” tape but when I came of age, I started with Tupac and in my mind, he was and is still the greatest.
