He incurred special favor with Spike Lee, who cast him in films such as Crooklyn and Clockers and he starred in six movies in 1996, including Get Shorty and Feeling Minnesota, and he won a NAACP Image nod for playing baseball icon Satchel Paige in The Soul of the Game.
