Singer Dawn Richard is awarded a Mirror Mirror Award in Los Angeles

Music flows through Dawn Richard’s vein. A New Orleans native and the daughter of a musician and choir director, she was destined to sing and become a songwriter. “I’d sneak underneath his piano and watch him perform,” says Richard of her father who was a member of RCA’s R&B group Chocolate Milk. A former reality star, “Making the Band,” and member of platinum group Danity Kane and Diddy-Dirty Money, Richard decided to spread her wings in 2011 and launch a solo career. She released a mixtape, A Tell Tale Heart, a prelude to her solo album Goldenheart. Within a week, it has been downloaded 1,000,000 times. Favorites are singles “Bulletproof,” “Me, Myself & Y,” and “These Tears.” Richard attended the University of New Orleans on a full scholarship. Richard was an honoree at the Mirror Mirror Awards in Los Angeles on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012 at Rolling Stone Los Angeles Restaurant & Lounge.
