Some superstars are born on tabloid pages. And some are born on dimly-lit stages. While Roc Nation ingenue Rita Ora‘s love life provides blogs with a constant stream of gossip fodder, there’s another lovely talent on the label that’s set to erupt onto the international stage.
Bridget Kelly has all of the earmarks of a superstar. Undeniably talented, charismatic and stunningly beautiful, the Roc’s NYC-bred singer/songwriter sits on the cusp of a major breakthrough, and having already shared the stage with the likes of Jay-Z and Coldplay, Kelly is primed to take her place alongside them as one of the biggest artists in music. But she says that those experiences have barely whet her appetite — which proves that she has that other trait most superstars require: ambition.
“It’s given me something to look forward to,” she says of sharing bills with A-list stars. “It’s actually been a little bit of a tease. My very first show was onstage at Madison Square Garden—that’s the Holy Grail for us as performers!”
“Remembering those moments, being onstage [in front of] that many people and having them love me, I’m looking forward to [more of] that,” she says–before adding, “In a few years’ time, hopefully.”
The video for Kelly’s blazing single, “Special Delivery,” premiered on BET’s “106 & Park” earlier this week and she’s been building tremendous momentum since the release of her digital EP “Every Girl” in 2011. Hard at work on her official studio debut for Roc Nation, Kelly is confident that the project will let the world know exactly who she is as an artist. “I think people are going to be pleasantly surprised, it’s very similar to the EP–sort of a blend of alternative music and R&B,” she explains. “But I think it’s a little something for everybody, so I’m looking forward to getting it out.”
While the world awaits her grand artistic statement, Kelly is just happy to still have the support of the people that have been there since she started.
“Making my family and friends proud has been the highlight for me,” she shares. “We all work so hard [as artists] that sometimes we get a little jaded. We’re around so many people all the time—people that we’re fans of. So I think for me now, just being able to come back home and see my family and friends and see that they still get excited for me, that means the world.”
Retaining those bonds is a top priority for Bridget Kelly, which proves she has that final, unquestionably important trait that any superstar must possess: humility.
