The murder-suicide of Jovan Belcher and his girlfriend, Kasandra Perkins, shook the nation. And as family, friends and fans cope with the tragic deaths, police have been busy solving the mystery around Belcher’s decision to kill Perkins and himself. Now, police have revealed that Belcher had thoughts of killing Perkins months before he committed the violent act.
According to The Kansas City Star, a police report claims that less than two months before Belcher shot Perkins, he sent his secret girlfriend a text message saying he “would shoot” Perkins “if she didn’t leave him alone.”
Belcher’s secret girlfriend told police that “his child’s mother threatened to take all his money and his child if they split up” and “knew exactly how to press his buttons and make him angry.”
Despite his troubling text messages, Belcher’s secret girlfriend believed that he was just exaggerating and playing around. However, on Dec. 1, Belcher’s text message became a dark reality when he fatally shot Perkins several times in their home and then drove to his team’s headquarters and shot himself in front of his coach and general manager.
