Has it been a good feeling to get all of the positive responses from people about the film?
Yeah it has, but think about it … I spent all that time making this damn movie, and I had to wait two years to finally get a laugh. So I’ve just been sitting here waiting. … So after these two years … it feels good.
Let’s talk about the cast, because we’re assuming that everyone was just acting a fool.
We were having fun, man. One of the ways that we knew we were having fun, was when the movie starts and you have to be quiet, you would start to hear laughter from the camera man … that’s how you know your [stuff] is funny, and we had that happen all the time.
I know that you are always trying to push the envelope, but is there ever a point when it’s too far?
Yes, there is a line that you can’t cross. Like, it’s too soon for a Whitney Houston joke … a Michael Jackson joke, you might be able to get away with one — maybe — but, Whitney Houston? Nah, not now; wait until Bobbi Kristina gets situated … wait until Ray J drops his new album [laughs]. Now there are times when you go too far, but that’s the beauty of it. Like with me, during stand-up I would make the entire crowd groan. See, I like that, because you’re listening, and I’m making you laugh. Behind the listen, there has to be a laugh.
